About Isar Lat, Jaipur
The Heaven Piercing Minaret
Isar Lat, popularly known as Sargasuli (meaning ‘Passage to Heaven’) is a towering minaret located in the heart of Jaipur’s Old City. Standing at approximately 140 feet (43 meters) tall this seven-story octagonal structure was commissioned in 1749 by Maharaja Sawai Ishwari Singh to commemorate a pivotal military triumph: his victory over his stepbrother Sawai Madho Singh in the Battle of Rajmahal (1747). The towering design, blending Rajput and Mughal architectural styles was inspired by the Qutub Minar of Delhi and the Kirti Stambh of Chittorgarh. Today the Sargasuli Tower remains a relatively uncrowded hidden gem offering visitors unparalleled 360-degree panoramic views of the Pink City and its surrounding landmarks.
