About MaharaniyonKi Chhatriyan, Jaipur

The Royal Cenotaphs of Jaipur's Queens

Maharaniyon Ki Chhatriyan located on the Amer Road near the Jal Mahal is the designated cremation ground and memorial complex for the royal women or Maharanis of the Kachwaha dynasty of Jaipur. Serving as the serene counterpoint to the male cenotaphs at Gaitore this site features a collection of beautifully crafted chhatris (dome-shaped pavilions) dedicated to the wives and female relatives of the Maharajas. The architecture showcases a harmonious blend of Rajput and Mughal styles though the carvings here often possess a more delicate, feminine theme, focusing on music, dance, and floral motifs. Visiting this tranquil complex offers a unique insight into the reverence and status accorded to the royal women of Rajasthan.
