The Jagdish Temple, situated in the heart of Udaipur’s old city and near the entrance to the City Palace is a monumental tribute to Lord Vishnu worshipped here as Jagannath (Lord of the Universe). Commissioned by Maharana Jagat Singh I and completed in 1651 this three-storied architectural marvel is a quintessential example of the Indo-Aryan or Māha Māru style. Its towering Shikhara (spire) rises approximately 79 feet and is visible from many parts of the city dominating the skyline. The temple is renowned for its intricate carvings that cover the exterior walls depicting detailed scenes from Hindu mythology, celestial beings, and various incarnations of Lord Vishnu. It remains a vibrant spiritual hub drawing both devotees who come for its sanctity and history and visitors captivated by its exquisite craftsmanship.
