About Garh Ganesh Temple, Jaipur

The Guardian Deity of the Pink City

Perched atop the Aravalli Hills, the Garh Ganesh Temple is a venerable Hindu sanctuary dedicated to Lord Ganesha established even before the foundation of Jaipur. This ancient temple serves as the spiritual guardian of the Pink City offering a unique blend of historical significance, distinct architecture and breathtaking panoramic views making the pilgrimage a truly enriching experience. Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the 18th century after the successful completion of an Ashwamedha Yagya, the temple predates the laying of the foundation stone for Jaipur city. It was constructed to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings for the city’s prosperity and removal of all obstacles. The temple is famous for its distinct idol of Lord Ganesha which is in his Purushakriti (child form) and notably without a trunk (or with a right-turning trunk in some accounts), a rare representation. This form is believed to bestow good fortune and success.
