About Govind Devji Temple, Jaipur

The Divine King of the Pink City

The Govind Devji Temple nestled within the sprawling City Palace complex of Jaipur is one of the most revered and spiritually significant shrines in North India. Dedicated to Lord Krishna the temple is not only a center of devotion but also intricately linked with the history and royal lineage of the Kachwaha dynasty who regarded Lord Govind Dev Ji as the true ruler of Jaipur. The temple is dedicated to Lord Govind Dev Ji (a form of Lord Krishna) and his eternal consort, Radha. The deity is the principal deity (Ishta Dev) of the Kachwaha royal family of Amber/Jaipur. The black stone idol of Govind Dev Ji is believed to have been sculpted by Bajranabh, the great-grandson of Lord Krishna, over 5,000 years ago. Its unique feature is that it is considered to bear the closest resemblance to Lord Krishna’s actual face when he was on Earth.
