About Galta Ji Temple, Jaipur

Ancient Pilgrimage and Architectural Oasis Amidst the Aravalli Hills

Galta Ji Temple, colloquially known worldwide as the “Monkey Temple” or “Galwar Bagh,” is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site nestled within a narrow mountain pass of the Aravalli range approximately 10 kilometers east of Jaipur. More closely resembling a grand, sprawling haveli (mansion) than a conventional temple the complex is built from striking pink sandstone blending traditional Rajasthani and Mughal architectural elements. It is renowned for its seven sacred kunds (water tanks) continuously fed by a natural spring emerging high in the hills. Dedicated primarily to Lord Hanuman and historically significant as the gaddi (seat) of the Ramanandi Vaishnava sect the temple offers a unique blend of spiritual sanctity, architectural beauty, and a captivating encounter with hundreds of resident Rhesus Macaques.
