About Jagat Shiromani Temple, Jaipur

A Sanctuary of Devotion and Architectural Fusion

Located in the historic town of Amer, near Jaipur, the Jagat Shiromani Temple stands as a magnificent testament to devotion, royal memory and a remarkable synthesis of architectural styles. Built at the turn of the 17th century it is not merely a place of worship but a cultural landmark housing an idol central to the life of the mystic poet-saint, Meera Bai. The temple was commissioned by Queen Kanakwati the wife of Maharaja Man Singh I between 1599 and 1608 CE. It was built as a permanent and loving memorial to her son Kunwar Jagat Singh, who died young. The temple is famously dedicated to Lord Krishna, Lord Vishnu and the revered poet-saint Meera Bai. It is considered one of the very few temples in the world where the idol of Lord Krishna is worshipped alongside his greatest devotee, Meera Bai and not his consorts Radha or Rukmini. The name Jagat Shiromani means “Jewel on the Head of Lord Vishnu” signifying the temple’s dedication to the paramount deity and linking it to the prince whose memory it preserves.
