The Nagaur Fort is a historical monument located in Nagaur city,
Rajasthan, India. It is also known as the Ahhichatragarh Fort and is
considered one of the most prominent and well-preserved forts in
Rajasthan. The fort was built by the Nagavanshi clan of Chauhan
dynasty in the early 12th century and has undergone many renovations
and additions over the centuries by different rulers.
The Nagaur Fort covers an area of approximately 2.8 hectares and is
surrounded by a wall with nine gates. The fort has several palaces,
temples, and other structures built inside its walls. The most notable
structures in the fort are the Rani Mahal, Hadi Rani Mahal, and Amar
Singh Palace. The Rani Mahal, also known as the Queen's Palace, is an
exquisite structure built in Rajput-Mughal architectural style. It has
beautiful wall paintings, carvings, and mirror work that showcase the
rich heritage of the region.
The Hadi Rani Mahal is another impressive palace in the fort, built
for the wife of a nobleman who sacrificed her life in the service of
her husband. It is a two-story palace with intricately carved pillars,
arches, and jharokhas (balconies). The Amar Singh Palace is another
stunning structure built inside the fort. It was built in the 18th
century and served as the residence of the rulers of Nagaur.
